“I take pride in living and working in the Triangle for over 30 years. I raised my family here and I continue to enjoy hands-on experience in the home building industry here. I consider the Triangle to be one of the finest places to live in the country.”

Back Story

I started my home building career in 1983 as an onsite general laborer; from there
I moved to site construction manager, then to multi-site production management. In 1997, I co-founded a custom home building company with two partners. In a few short years, we developed our company into one of the largest and most successful custom home building companies in the Triangle. Although my co-owner role was gratifying, my long term goal was to own and operate my own company. In pursuit of my dream, I sold my shares of that company and formed Prewitt Custom Homes in 2007. I take great pride in saying that over the years I have built an extremely talented staff. As a team, we all feel fortunate to be living this dream that began many years ago.

Core Philosophy

My commitment to my clients has always been to utilize my years of building experience to provide exceptional quality, value, and service. I believed then and still believe today that strong client relationships provide a firm foundation for building fine homes. As a result, Prewitt Custom Homes has built a reputation for excellence in craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. Although building a home is intimidating and stressful for some, I strive to make the experience enjoyable and exciting. My clients become a part of the family when they decide to build with my company.

Extensive Experience

Prewitt Custom Homes really is a dream come true for me. I’ve had the pleasure of delivering hundreds of homes, priced from the $400s to $2M, to “family” throughout the towns and surrounding areas of Pittsboro, Raleigh, and Wake Forest, North Carolina. In addition to building custom homes in established neighborhoods, the majority of the homes built by my company are custom build-to-suit homes on scattered lots, especially “inside the beltline” in Raleigh. I thoroughly enjoy the home building process in each scenario.

Community Involvement

On a personal note, I’ve savored an abundance of volunteer hours with my children and other youngsters in Capital City Young Marines and Triangle Y Guides programs. I’ve shared my love of the North Carolina coast and saltwater fishing with family and friends as often as time has allowed. I am a Past President of the Raleigh – Wake County Home Builders Association, the largest Home Builders Association in the country. I’m proud to be an active member of the Triangle community and I’m proud to continue the Prewitt Custom Homes tradition of building fine homes. I invite you to contact us for additional information.

We visited some of Jim’s previously built homes and liked the quality we saw. We also spoke to several clients and were impressed by both their comments and their homes. After contacting Jim about building a home for us on a lot he owned, we began the process, which included working through negotiations on the lot, all the way through selecting a home plan, materials, colors, and landscaping. Jim’s knowledge and flexibility were real strengths. He was awesome to work with and was willing to accommodate our wants while executing our build. I would absolutely recommend Prewitt Custom Homes!
